Abstract

This article contributes to the growing debate on reintegration and the positioning of returnees in their home societies. Increasingly, studies focus on returnees’ agency in reintegration processes, their practices of mobility in return and their use of social capital and financial and social remittances acquired abroad. Much less analysed is how ethnicity influences such processes of return and experiences of reintegration. In this paper we examine how returnees belonging to different ethnic groups – Germans, Romanians and Roma – reintegrate in a Romanian multi-ethnic context with marked ethnic inequality and lasting segregation. Fieldwork was carried out in a town that has undergone massive changes in the past 30 years due to the combined effects of foreign direct investment and international migration. Economically, the town changed from a poor and decaying context, to one that was poor but developing and finally to one experiencing strong development. Using a modes-of-integration perspective and analysing returnees’ reintegration and mobilities, we show how return evolved as an ethnicised process in different contexts of reception.

Abstract

Previously, only three Candelariella species were known from Antarctica: C. aurella, C. flava and C. vitellina. After morphologically and phylogenetically examining our collections on soil from James Ross Island, located in the north-east Antarctic Peninsula region, and Horseshoe Island, a small rocky island in Bourgeois Fjord, Marguerite Bay in the south-west Antarctic Peninsula, we describe the lichen species Candelariella ruzgarii as new to science. Sequences of the nrITS, mtSSU and RPB1 gene regions of the new species were amplified and revealed that the phylogenetic position of the new species is in the C. aurella group, which is characterised by 8-spored asci and ± granular thalli. Candelariella ruzgarii is phylogenetically most closely related to C. aurella s. lat. but differs mainly in ecology as the new species grows on soil or on terricolous lichens, whereas the latter species grows on calcareous rocks, rarely on wood. Morphologically, C. ruzgarii is very similar to C. aggregata, a Northern Hemisphere species that grows on mosses and plant debris. Apart from the different phylogenetical position, C. ruzgarii has a thicker and sometimes slightly crenulated thalline margin and somewhat shorter ascospores than C. aggregata. We also report C. plumbea for the first time from Antarctica, a species with a thick and grey thallus that was previously known from Europe and Asia.

Abstract

Investigations of n-dodecane used in flotation of copper ore from the Legnica-Glogow Copper Basin (LGOM) were presented in the paper. The aim of the work was estimation of influence of nonpolar reagent's on the results of copper ore flotation. Two series of flotation tests were conducted. The first series - flotation experiments with standard flotation with xanthate collector only (KEtX), were compared with the second series: flotation experiments with n-dodecane addition (C12) in the first stage and then xanthate addition (KEtX). n-dodecane was used in form of aqueous emulsion and frother was aqueous solution of \alfa-terpincol. Flotation results showed that a part of copper minerals float with n-dodecane, and the rest of them is recovered using xanthate collector. The best results were obtained for the first series (with xanthate only). These flotation results were compared with the results of copper sulphide ores flotation with n-heptane addition. It was found that with the doses reagent used, n-heptane has a higher selectivity in comparison with n-dodecane. In the presence of various doses of n-heptane, tested material enriched better in organic carbon carriers than in the copper minerals.

Abstract

Field measurements of the near-ground odorant concentrations were made in surrounding of the mechanical sewage treatment plant with separated digestive chamber. The concentrations downwind the pollutants plume in several different meteorological situations were the basis for the estimations by a process of trial and error. The estimations encompassed the total emission of odorants and emission rates related to the volume of the purified sewage, to the amount of the removed pollutants and to the area of the unorganized emission sources during the autumn. Parallel research concerning other seasons and different surface sources of odorants are planned.

Abstract

The claim of this article is to argue that the main thrust of Karl Marx’s philosophy was neither a critique of political economy, nor a critique of the bourgeois political system, but an anti-theistic raid of a metaphysical nature, and that this drive gave him the impetus that motivated his intellectual activity from the time when he had not yet had any economic theory and when the proletariat had not yet played a major role within the purview of his interests. Marx’ rebellion led him to a condemnation of the entire creation as a product of an evil Demiurge, who – to exacerbate the situation even further – was nothing else than a product of human false consciousness, manifesting itself politically as a division of any populace into friends and foes, who were subsequently conglomerated into antagonistic social classes but could be transformed in appropriate conditions into stateless community of friends.

Abstract

Obaj Forsterowie, starszy i młodszy, uczestniczyli w słynnej drugiej wyprawie kapitana Jamesa Cooka dookoła świata w latach 1772–1775, zrelacjonowanej w dwutomowym dziele, znanym w niemieckiej wersji jako Johann Reinhold Forster’s und Georg Forster’s Reise um die Welt in den Jahren 1772 bis 1775, Berlin 1778–1780.
