Abstract

This paper first looks into mechanisms that license the formation of transitive causative constructions with the motion verbs run and walk. As a further step, it takes into consideration intransitive constructions with these verbs and, in doing so, it contrasts the meaning of run with walk as its most natural counterpart. The paper provides evidence in favour of positing one of the verb’s senses as core, representing a kind of starting point against which some of the other motion senses are established. In this way, arguments are offered in favour of the lexical network model of polysemy. At the same time, it is shown that the extensive usability of run (and, by the same token, the restricted usability of walk) is closely related to the degree of the verb’s context-sensitivity, which, in its turn, points to the conception of the verb’s meaning as representing a dynamic potential.

Abstract

The paper presents results of aluminium concentration determination in the samples of surface water and bottom sediments of the Mala Wełna River (West Poland). In the surface water the concentration of aluminium varies in the range from 4.14 to 25.9 ug/dm'. With use of the Mineql+ program the concentration of the aluminium sulphate complexes in the water samples studied has been determined in a model way. In the bottom sediments samples of the river aluminium has been determined in the granulometrie fractions of the grain sizes> 2.0; 2.0-1.0; 1.0-0.5; 0.5-0.25; 0.25-0.1; 0.1-0.063; < 0.063 mm, using the sequential extraction scheme proposed by Tessier el al. The lowest concentration of aluminium has been found in the granulometrie fraction 0.5-0.25 mm, while the highest in the fractions 0.1-0.063 and< 0.063 mm. An elevated concentration of aluminium has been also noted in the fraction> 2.0 mm. Taking into regard the chemical fractions the lowest concentration of aluminium has been found in the exchange fraction and the fraction bounded to carbonates (fractions I and li), whereas the highest concentration of aluminium has been determined in the lithogenic fraction (fraction V). The methods of sample preparation for analysis of aluminium in bottom sediments were compared. Il was observed that higher concentration of aluminium was present in grounded samples without its influence on grain size fractions. The concentration of aluminium in surface water samples has been determined by the GF-AAS, while in bottom sediments by F-AAS.

Abstract

The article discusses the technical condition of buildings. An attempt was made to compare the technical condition and the degree of technical wear of two multi-family residential buildings erected at the interval of 25 years. The list of such objects is intended to illustrate that even relatively young buildings may exhibit differing levels of wear and technical condition of building elements.

Abstract

The aim of this article is to describe the silver tankard made by Nathaniel Pressding I for the wedding of Johann Peter Titz with Aurelia von Strackwitz in 1678. The bride and groom received the cup from the students of the Academic Gymnasium in Gdańsk. One of the customary rituals in Gdańsk involved giving gold and silver coins, medals and dinnerware as wedding gifts. Silver tankards were one of the most popular gifts in the late 1600s. The decorations on the tableware were chosen to match the importance of an occasion. In the case of wedding gifts the ornaments were taken either from Bible stories (Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, Isaac and Rebecca, the Wedding Feast at Cana) or from Greek and Roman art. The scene of the relief of the tankard’s corpus presents popular decorative elements with Cupid taken from Otto van Veen’s Amorum emblemata… (Antverpiae 1608). The described object is striking in the perfection of its workmanship and refined expression of the creator’s expertise. It is also an example of the first use of the master craftsman’s mark.

Abstract

Wzorem opactw zakonnych wprowadzono do wakujących parafii wiejskich administratora nazwanego komendarzem parafii ( commendarius parochiae). Komendarz parafii zakonnej zazwyczaj przebywał w macierzystym klasztorze, łącząc często z komendą inne funkcje w klasztorze. Instalowany przez władze diecezjalne, w zakresie administrowania parafią – posługa duchowa i zarząd beneficjum – pozostawał podporządkowany biskupowi, bywał też pełnoprawnym członkiem kongregacji dekanalnej.
