Abstract

Skin Cancer is one of the most widely present forms of cancer. The correct classification of skin lesions as malignant or benign is a complex process that has to be undertaken by experienced specialists. Another major issue of the class imbalance of data causes a bias in the results of classification. This article presents a novel approach to the usage of metadata of skin lesions' images to classify them. The usage of techniques addresses the problem of class imbalance to nullify the imbalances. Further, the use of a convolutional neural network (CNN) is proposed to finetune the skin lesion data classification. Ultimately, it is proven that an ensemble of statistical metadata analysis and CNN usage would result in the highest accuracy of skin color classification instead of using the two techniques separately.

Abstract

This text has two goals: to discuss a surviving fragment of correspondence between Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna and her friend Melania Plater-Zyberk, and to provide information on the latter (since she is a part of the little known circle of people close to Iłłakowiczówna). A fragment of her correspondence with the poet dating back to the period from 1960 to 1970 has survived in the authors family. The collection includes fifteen letters written on postcards and seasonal cards. The poet provides information on her daily concerns, intentions, arranged meetings, and also discusses her literary and artistic achievements. Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna’s letters are private and as such enrich with new tones the poet’s extensive epistolography - both the official and the family correspondence kept in four Polish libraries (with the largest collection kept in the Kórnik Library).

Abstract

Connection of etymology and dialect lexicography is bilateral: progress of etymological investigations leads to the analysis of dialectal vocabulary, and composition of the dictionary of many / all dialects of some language requires standardization of initial records. Standardization presupposes removal of specific dialectal structural / phonetic modifications and consideration of the history of language. So, the attraction to etymological analysis of dialect words is useful and even inevitable. The author offers possible solutions of these methodological problems.
